
RULES OF THE CHALLENGE
- PacificLight’s 2026 Sustainable Cities Challenge (Secondary) (“the Challenge”) is open to all secondary level students studying in Singapore at MOE-registered secondary schools and/or international educational institutions and home schoolers.
- All submissions must be registered online at crea8sustainablity.sg/2026-Sustainable-Cities-Challenge/secondary-level-registration by 11:59pm on Friday, 3 July 2026.
- Submissions will only be considered successful once all the required details have been provided and the group’s project proposal and conceptual or rendered drawings have been uploaded.
- Entries will be categorised by the calendar year of birth in accordance with MOE guidelines.
- Submission requirements for Shortlisting Stage:
- Participants are to work in group consisting of 3 (minimum) to 5 (maximum) members.
- Each participating group is to submit a Green Transformation project proposal for one of the selected products below by addressing the product redesign and behavioural change components:
- An everyday made of three (3) or more materials
- Food and Beverage
- Furniture
- The proposal must address the following:
- Cover page with team members’ names, school and academic level
- Brief introduction to the selected product
- Analysis of the original product design across its lifecycle
- Explanation of the product redesign and how it supports the circular principles
- Comparison of materials, production process and packaging between the original and redesigned product, including an explanation their impacts
- Explanation for the changes required to Singapore’s existing infrastructure
- Cost comparison for manufacturers between original and redesigned product
- Estimation of the reduction in waste generation and/or carbon emissions achieved through the redesign products
- Explanation on the behavioural changes the redesigned product is expected to encourage.
- The project proposal and the conceptual or rendered drawings must be submitted together in the following format:

- All proposals should be accompanied with visual representations of the product redesign. Judging shall be based on both the submitted proposal and visual representations.
- Participants must ensure that the proposal and visual representations are well-presented and clear.
- The submission must be an original creation. Original creation means it has been created directly and personally by the participant. Direct copying or imitating another person’s work is not considered to be original work.
- If PacificLight has reason to believe that a submission is not original, it may request for evidence. Any submission that is not considered original will be rejected and disqualified from the Challenge.
- It is the legal responsibility of the participant(s), not PacificLight, to ensure compliance with all ownership and copyright requirements for images and referenced content, information, data, etc submitted for this Challenge. E.g. to cite the original source of content, information or data referenced in the submission (if any).
- Each participating group may only submit one entry to the Challenge. Multiple entries from the same group or group members will be disqualified.
- It is the submitter’s responsibility to ensure that participant(s) details are entered correctly.
- Each submission made by the teacher on behalf of group must be accompanied by a completed Parent Consent Form from each group member in the following format. Entries without a completed parent/guardian consent form shall be disqualified.

- By submitting an entry to the Challenge, participants hereby represent and warrant that the submission does not and shall not knowingly infringe any copyright or any other relevant rights of any party or third party.
- By submitting an entry to the Challenge, the group members from the participating group grants PacificLight an unlimited worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to use and reproduce the participant’s works, including content, images and drawings at the prize presentation ceremony and showcase exhibition, for any and all of PacificLight’s purposes including its advocacy of sustainable energy use.
- All uses of the submission will be non-commercial, and participants will be credited.
- The group members from participating groups retain all copyright to their original submission.
- By submitting an entry, each group member of the participating group provides consent to PacificLight to make reference to their name and school for the purpose of identifying them as the creator of the submission.
- Any false representation, erroneous information, or violation of these rules and regulations or general objectives of the challenge (such as receiving help to create the submission), will result in immediate disqualification of the participant from the Challenge.
- Decisions on the winning submission will be made by a judging panel comprising of PacificLight staff and third parties that PacificLight may choose to engage. The judges’ decision is final.
- Prizes for the winners are as follows:
- Gold – $400 POPULAR vouchers + trophy + Certificate of Award
- Silver – $300 POPULAR vouchers + trophy + Certificate of Award
- Bronze – $200 POPULAR vouchers + trophy + Certificate of Award
- Distinction (Max 2) – $100 POPULAR vouchers + Certificate of Award
- At their discretion, judges may award up to 5 Merit Awards. Prizes may not be awarded for Merit participants, but a Certificate of Merit will be issued.
- Shortlisted groups for the Finals will be notified via email based on the contact provided in the entry submission by end-July 2026. Final winning groups will be notified via email by end-September 2026. Further details on the date and time of the Learning Journey workshop, final presentation, and the prize presentation ceremony will be provided nearer to the date
